(More customer reviews)I have the fortune of having Mark on the scene at my Port Orange Florida home when I am in Massachusetts and not lucky enough to ship him to Medway Massachusetts when we are in Florida. Mark's book is the absolute layman's handbook to protecting that which is only 2nd in importance to protecting your loved ones and the family dog. The mistakes I personally made prior to reading Leaving Your Home Alone (in Massachusetts) cost us over $5,000 in repairs to systems I screwed up by not knowing how to park them. So BEFORE you think about leaving the castle you need to click the buy it button. I have never had a single issue in Florida and we left that in Marks hands since the day we bought it.
Worst thing is coming home and making certain you have room in the driveway for the service trucks!

(More customer reviews)I was hoping that this book would have more tabular data and formulas for calculating required structural members; instead it outlined basic components of materials of construction (i should hope we don't need an engineer to tell us things are made of wood & steel!) but did not get down how to solve problems. When I saw the author makes his living testifying against people, my heart sank.

There are 7 sections - envelope, lighting, heating, cooling, energy production, water and waste and case studies- with different strategies in each. The sections are very clear and explain what each strategy is, how it's achieved, the problems and design considerations for each. Also there are lots of diagrams, charts and real-world examples. I would highly recommend this book it is very easy to read and it makes what may seem like complicated sustainable systems, easy to implement into your own designs.

This book explains in both words and in illustrations and nice photos.Laury, once the editor of "quilter's newsletter" has proven that crafting on fabric, transferring images to fabric and other imagery on fabric is doable by even a novice. Owning a computer and scanner, plus and ink jet or some kind of color printer would be helpful prior to purchasing this book. I learned how to transfer photos, scanned images, computer images from the internet etc. Quilters will have a blast with photo image quilts. Buy it !
