(More customer reviews)I purchased this item thinking it would save me from the salt lugging and the mess of the water softener. I waited until the salt had run out and the water was at its normal condition then installed the device. I immediately noticed a scale on the dishes and that they weren't clean-had lots of water spots. I called the mfg and talked to "Max" explaining my situation (out of warranty with Amazon) He said that I apparently didn't have much iron or calcium in my water and the device wouldn't work and gave me the address for return. I spent $8.00 sending it back to Plano,Tx. Steve from Applied Magnetics called me and said GOOD LUCK they would not stand by their product and that I was out of luck. If you like magnets it's great, but if you want it to soften your water- forget it!
