Along with my biology textbook/cd from my freshman year, this was my primary study guide (I was after my junior year of college as a chem major). The intro, as someone else mentioned is kind of worthless. If you're far along enough to be taking the PCAT, you probably know a fair amount about pharmacy practice and how pharmacy school is structured. However, I thought the test questions paralleled what I saw on the test very nicely. I scored in the 92nd percentile overall. Practice a little bit everyday to get your fundamentals down and hopefully you'll do well too!
By the way, the PCAT has a writing section now, and I don't think this book covers it. The question is seems to be something rediculously general ans science related. I'm not sure a lot of schools really evalute your PCAT essay score so I wouldnt fret a whole lot.

STAY AWAY! There's nothing 2006-2007 about this -- this is just "Peterson's PCAT Success 2005" repackaged. This so-called prep completely neglects the Quantitative Reasoning (math) section of the PCAT: its practice tests lack ANY calculus or pre-calc problems (50% of the 2006 PCAT's QR section!). Even if you're a math whiz who doesn't need any review, this book misrepresents the content of the 2006 PCAT.
Also, the book contains only a handful of diagnostic tests and 2 practice PCATs -- the remaining 100 pages is a cursory guide to pharmacy school, info anyone planning to take the PCAT already knows. The only PCAT guide out now that even attempts to cover the material on the new PCAT is the (not so great) Kaplan's.

I started out looking up topics in this handy book by Lisa Chavis, and found myself reading page after page. Not only are there ideas and recommendations for the most common (and most aggravating) everyday health problems in here, but there is a refreshingly cheerful look at pharmacists, doctors and consumers as well. The authors never talks down to the reader and seems to anticipate the questions that come up in the reading. The Humor Pills are delightful additions to rather than distractions from the content. I learned some things and had a good time doing it!

Mosby's Pharmacy Technician: Principles and Practice Review

Mosby's Pharmacy Technician: Principles and Practice

This is one of the better books available to give you a good general feel for all the different aspects of the pharmacy technician's job responsibilities. There are a lot of color pictures and examples which are lacking in many other books. The book gives a general description of the different positions a pharmacy technician may hold such as duties in a hospital setting or in a retail setting, special duties such as preparing chemotherapy drugs, IV drugs and compounding, and also includes chapters on the different body systems and drugs that treat diseases in each system. A CD comes with the book that has animations of the body systems and problems to work on to help prepare for the certification exam. The appendix includes a list of 200 of the more popular drugs and a math review. There is also a practice exam at the end. This is a good all inclusive book if you only want to buy one book that covers a little of everything instead of buying all the books in a series. I work as a technician in a pharmacy and I would recommend this book.
