The bulk of the book is probably easy enough to understand for most readers, but also contains a good amount of technical info., especially on the isolation and culturing of different organisms

(More customer reviews)If you buy just one book on CFIDS, make it this one. The authors cover just about every CFIDS symptom imaginable along with suggested treatments and the treatments' pros and cons. Added bonuses include a cataloging of medications and natural remedies used to treat CFIDS with notes on possible side effects. I found discussions of even my wackiest symptoms, those I thought no one could ever possibly understand (including the "sensory storm" which a previous reviewer mentions). The authors are CFIDS sufferers themselves, so reading the book is like talking to an extra-knowledgeable and empathetic friend. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this impressively researched and thorough book is a great one to bring along to the doctor.

Winemaking: From Grape Growing to Marketplace Review

(More customer reviews)This book touches on all parts of the winemaking business from vineyard costs to winery costs and designs to marketing your wines. It has a good section on analytical testing procedures and 50 pages of charts, tables and conversions that come in handy.
The section on vineyard costs details year by year expenses from start-up through year 7. I also found the feasibility and finance section very helpful in starting up my own winery. The section on government regulations was very helpful in warning any prospective winery owners of what the ATF and state regulators expect. There are plenty of examples of good record keeping that various governments expect you to keep on hand at all times.
Of course this book also has 117 pages of good winemaking details along with good sections on microbiology, winery equipment, barrels and label designs. If this book has any obvious fault it would be that it does not go deep enough into some of these subjects, but then it would be thousands of pages long instead of the 440 pages it is.
An all around great book on winemaking and the rest of the business that goes with a winery and it's operation. This book has lots of good business information in it that I have not seen in any other winemaking book. I recommend it for anyone who not only wants to make great wine but also is serious about starting his own commercial winery.

Winemaking is an excellent resource for anyone making wine or seriously considering it. Beginning with the history of vines and wines, the book covers the growing of grapes, the process of making wine, specific types of wine, issues in marketing, and practical guidance on getting started, constructing a winery, and compliance with the law. Several appendices provide equipment sources, analytical procedures, scientific data, and a glossary. An accessible quick reference on enology, the new edition will include new information on marketing wines and on the use of computers in viticulture and winemaking.

Understanding Wine Technology: The Science of Wine Explained Review

(More customer reviews)Clearly written and a quick read, but don't be fooled: there is a lot of solid technical information here, including one of the best published reviews of filtration, and an excellent overview of additives. Clarity here is due to good writing and careful exposition, not by dumbing down the topic. The book was written for classroom use, for instance by students preparing for the WSET Diploma Examination, and also succeeds as a text for someone who understands the basics of winemaking but wants to know the why as well as the what.
However, the chapter on fermentation is a bit brief for its intended role as a textbook, and faults merit only a few pages. A lack of a bibliography (other than a few scattered references to journal articles) also counts against it. I recommend supplementing with another text such as Rankine's "Making Good Wine" (ISBN 140503601X) or a reference work such as Jackson's "Wine Science".
(Note: A newer edition is now available, it might address some of the above criticisms.)
This is a book worth owning and reading, but it will not provide all the answers.

Stuff we all do every day: marketing yourself to GC, get on the bidder list, read blueprints, quantity take-off, vendor pricing, write quote letters, contract negotiation, job costing... You name it. But the book is good because it presents all this information upfront, without big talks. Convenient size makes it easy to carry and look up info. Give it 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10.

The authors discuss viticultural considerations as they relate to winemaking as well as sensory evaluation and the importance of each analyte in the spectrum of winery operations. I bought this book with "Successful wine marketing" and have greatly benefited from these two books.

The NALCO Guide to Boiler Failure Analysis Review

(More customer reviews)This book is a need item to help trouble shoot problems with boiler, DA tanks, condensate return tanks,pumps, and piping. If you can see the problem, you will probably see a picture of the problem in this book along with what caused it...and in color 95 percent of the time. It has been a real life saver, literlly. You gotta have this book even if you only use it once..it could save your life, or your building/s. Try it ..you will like it. My instructor in 2 grade class was so impressed it got one.
