I bought my first home in 1963. I have bought and sold homes four times since, so I have gone through the exercise five times. I thought I had a pretty good comprehension of the process, but reading this book tells me that I was probably aware of less than 50% of important details that are not apparent to the average consumer. This book is crammed with ideas, scenarios, guidance, and caveats, some of them expressed in extreme detail. The financial guidance and calculation worksheets alone are worth the price of the book. This book should be in the hands of every homebuyer, including first timers and experienced ones such as I. My next move will likely be to a downsized residence. I will definitely use some of the planning techniques to allow my wife and me to prioritize our true needs.

Buying a home is, in the authors' words, both a romantic journey and a business venture. For most families, it's the largest single investment they will ever make. The purpose of this book is to transform home buyers--especially first-time buyers--into smart consumers who can evaluate a property objectively as step number one in deciding whether or not to buy. The authors take their readers by the hand through the maze of mortgage shopping, dealing with real estate agents, and hunting down that perfect dream house. Some of the many questions they help prospective buyers answer are: Consideration of family needs: how many rooms, what kind of neighborhood, access to schools, shopping, and the like Is the home affordable? Considerations include the size of the down payment, the size and type of mortgage, projecting monthly payments, and allowing for unforeseen expenses Making an offer and negotiating with sellers and real estate agents The close, settlement, and escrow Remodeling: adding to a home and making improvements Investment Property: understanding market values Selling a home . . . and much, much more Because this book addresses a national audience, it is necessarily general when making reference to local situations. However, the authors offer practical advice on how readers can find reliable local professional assistance in their quest to purchase a home.

Healing Yourself: A Practical Guide (Healing (Hampton Roads)) Review

Healing Yourself: A Practical Guide (Healing (Hampton Roads))
Average Reviews:

This is a remarkable book on the 'divine' powers of healing inherent in each of us. I very strongly recommend it to anyone suffering from physical (including life-threatening) or emotional illness, and am ordering more copies to pass on to friends and others. In my opinion, it is much more practical and effective than another excellent book "You Cannot Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought" (which I gave to a friend who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer at a major cancer center, and told that she only had 'six months to live' - she is alive healthy 15 years later, with no trace of the cancer).

Jane Brody's Nutrition Book Review

Jane Brody's Nutrition Book

I loved this book when it came out in the '80s. Reading it was a life-altering experience for me. I made permanent changes in the way I ate as a result of reading this book. But as much as I loved the book then, it's a product of its time, and we now know so much more about nutrition and what comprises a healthy diet. I recently browsed through it again just out of curiosity and was dismayed by some of the things I read, which I now know are wrong. Read it with a grain of salt--or Mrs. Dash's. Whatever.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Better Skin Review

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Better Skin

I purchased this book hoping to learn more about skin; have a greater understanding of how the skin works etc. The book does go into all this but I found that most topics were breezed over ie light and interesting but nothing of great substance. The areas of the book I enjoyed the most were the information on various proceedures you could get at salons for instance what the names of facials offered mean and what you could expect from them. I don't regret buying this book but I would recommend it for thoses who really have no or very little knowledge of their skin, skin type and problems.

Acquiring Optimal Health: How Many Degenerative and Age-Related Diseases Can Be Prevented Or....

This book contains information of a highly respected ophthalmologist's successful treatment protocol of a disease considered "incurable": macular degenertion. It contains a list of the substances (mostly food supplements, vitamins, minerals etc. which he discovered that in combination could reverse (sometimes completely as in my husband's case) this dreaded disease about 88% of the time. I highly recommend that if you have this condition, get 2 copies and give one to your own ophthalmologist with the hope that he will be open to supervising this treatment using Dr. Todd's protocol. It requires a prescription thyroid medication (trademark: "cytomel") along with the relevant supplements. Highly readable with an explanation of the cause of this problem and other eye diseases that he has successfully treated but considered incurable by orthodoxy.

It is what it is. A Companion on the level of an electronic book. Great for the Nephrology Fellow with an I-pad or I-phone who doesn't want to lug around spiral bound books in their lab coat looking like a first year resident or intern.
