(More customer reviews)This home reference book is the best purchase I've made for years. As a homeowner who does most of the renovating/decorating of my own home and also as a rental property owner who does most of the work myself this book has been a God-send. I used to have so many lists that when it came time to buy something I could never find the right list or the right measurement. Now it's all in the Sidekick, a book that's easy to carry into the stores with me. I keep it handy at all times. When I work on the rental properties I have it with me so that I can record measurements, draw sketches of plans etc. I have two books right now and plan on buying a couple more so that it can accomodate the number of properties I own/manage. Thank you Diane for a great idea and a great book. This book should be in every home.

(More customer reviews)The Ultimate Accidental Housewife was absolutely fabulous. Thank goodness I read this book! I am a busy woman and cleaning is not one of my favorite things to do. I learned many helpful and simple tasks that can make my house look cleaner and more organized in minutes. The author even included products and techniques to be more eco-friendly, which is certainly a bonus. She was definitely thinking about mothers when she wrote this book. There are solutions to everyday jobs included in the text that my children can help me with. They don't even know they're cleaning! I would recommend this book to any housewife, accidental or not.

(More customer reviews)I have a lot of trouble with clutter, so I read a lot of these books--and this one is the best I've ever seen. It doesnt just tell you how to get organized, but all the photos are so beautiful and show you how to do it.
This book is so funny, too. My husband kept asking me why I was laughing. He wanted to know why I was cracking up at a book about cleaning the house.
This would be a great wedding gift or for a sister or a friend.

(More customer reviews)I hate cleaning, and must admit I'm not very good at it. Part of my dislike is wrought out of ignorance. I simply do not know what I'm doing. Cooking is also not a skill I have. I need help.
Haley's Hints teaches me to cheat my way though a lot of household problems. He covers cleaning and cooking tips, but that's just the beginning.
Like the old "Hints from Heloise" I read in the newspaper as a kid, Haley presents very do-able solutions to everyday problems. Unlike Martha Stewart's ideas, which seem unreasonable in the average income family, Haley seems to have considered the practicality of his hints quite aptly.
Whether is it is hiding food odors, discouraging ants or his various methods of removing gum from things, he has a trick to it here in his well organized book.
The guy is thorough. The sheer number of pages will provide plenty of ideas for your home. Besides making a great read for extended bathroom visits, it serves best as a reference. HThe index is impressive and easy to use.
I fully recommend "Haley's Hints: A Compilation" by Graham Haley.

(More customer reviews)I really liked this book. It's short and simple, and inspires me to try and enjoy doing the laundry, rather than making it such a tedious chore. There is nothing really innovative in this book, but it's a nice and easy read for those looking for a little motivation and something to inspire. I like the idea of the "Spirit of Homekeeping", especially since I am a 20 something year old woman who grew up "hanging out" and watching too much television! Now that I have a family of my own, I love the old fashioned ideas of keeping home, and making the daily grind a little more enjoyable.

(More customer reviews)I love their tv show--and this book! It was amazing to learn how much dirt and bacteria can lurk in an uncleaned house!
The "Cleaning Bible" is full of how-tos for easy cleaning, and recipes for making your own inexpensive, organic, & non-toxic cleaning supplies. I've actually tried lots of their ideas and they've all worked well. The only drawback to the book is the rather inefficient indexing. You have to take the time to familiarize yourself with what's in the book if you hope to be able to find information when you REALLY need it.

Watersafe WS425W Well Water Test Kit Review

(More customer reviews)We have well water which we had tested by a local lab a year or two ago. I like to have the water tested regularly, mainly for bacteria, but the local lab charges $100 (if we want lead testing included, it's $200). I ordered this test kit thinking that I'd compare it to the results we got from the lab when we last had our water tested. If anything looked weird or came back abnormal, we'd pay the local lab to test the water.
The tests that I've done so far have given results that are in line with what we were expecting. The local lab gives some directions that I followed when pulling my water samples. They include the following:
1) Use cold water only.
2) For the bacteria test: let your water run for 5 minutes before you take a sample. Don't take a sample from a swivel faucet (commonly found in kitchens). They told me that it's best to take the water sample from the bathroom faucet or tub.
3) For the lead test: Take your sample at a point where the water has been sitting in the pipes for at least 6 hours. They recommended first thing in the morning, before flushing the toilets, etc.
The instructions included with the test kit were fine, but I would have appreciated something a bit more in depth, like those provided by our local lab. Still, this test is a fraction of what the local lab charges, and at least from what I can see, it appears to be fairly accurate.
