I have a lot of trouble with clutter, so I read a lot of these books--and this one is the best I've ever seen. It doesnt just tell you how to get organized, but all the photos are so beautiful and show you how to do it.
This book is so funny, too. My husband kept asking me why I was laughing. He wanted to know why I was cracking up at a book about cleaning the house.
This would be a great wedding gift or for a sister or a friend.

The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide Review

The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide by Kathy Peel
What a wonderfully refreshing resource Ms. Peel's book is! The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide is not only filled with useful, practical effective tips for managing your home, but the author's philosophy is so REAL. She immediately provides the reader with "10 Reasons to Get Organized", followed by "10 Reasons Why You'll Never Get Organized and Stay That Way Forever" - how true to life! So many books on organizing and time management teach just one way of doing things, and when this style does not match the reader's personal style, a sense of failure is created; but not so with Everday Survival Guide.
This book is well written, easy to follow, and (dare I say it) well organized. It is a guide, reference book, and primer all in one. Reading one of the basic principles in organizing early in the book is a big plus for the reader: "Organization is an ongoing art, a process, not an end product." This is exactly what organizing professionals teach their clients, and a lesson not to be dismissed lightly. By stating this right up front, Kathy Peel has tuned the reader in to the fact that there is nothing wrong with them, and the quest for finding balance in their life is shared by all women.
I particularly enjoyed the home management exercises, such as looking through rooms in your home for "secret" storage space, and not taking anything for granted in uncluttering your home. Using checklists as a time-saver is a wonderful idea, avoiding being disorganized on trips, for parties, etc.
I've added The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide to my recommended reading list for my workshops and teleclasses, and encourage readers to buy two copies: one for themselves, and one for a friend. Happy organizing!

Get Organized With Heloise Review

Get Organized With Heloise
Average Reviews:

Although this book was written well enough, with a catchy, accessible tone, I was disappointed by how little of it related to organization. I'd been expecting a volume that would offer me good, concrete hints on organizing the clutter in my house and office. And indeed, "Get Organized with Heloise" starts out that way, but quickly veers off course. Hints for finding a mover? Taking your pet to the vet? Throwing a party? All useful I'm sure, but what do they have to do with organization?
I haven't read one of Heloise's books before, so for all I know this grab-bag approach may be her preferred format, and maybe it's a format her loyal readers enjoy. But for me this book didn't provide the organizational tips it advertised. The final mark of its weakness is that after only finishing it a couple of days ago I can only remember two suggestions made in this book, one of which is useful to me ("five minutes or five things") and the other of which is not (color-coding your pantry). I'd hoped for much more.

Lists for Life: The Essential Guide to Getting Organized and Tackling Tough To-Dos Review

Lists for Life: The Essential Guide to Getting Organized and Tackling Tough To-Dos

Lately, I've been on a mission to get organized, so when I saw this book, I thought I'd give it a try. The bulk of the book is geared toward weddings and pregnancy, which are important parts of life, but only short periods of time. The author also recommended buying other planning guides for these events, so my question was, then what's the point of putting the lists here? Also, some of the lists were just plain weird. It's almost like the author doesn't really run her own household, but simply questioned their household staff as to what they do every day and threw it all into a book. Seriously, who cleans their bathroom windows every week or vacuums under their bed and under furniture every week? Does ANYONE wipe fingerprints off doors & woodwork weekly? That's stuff for seasonal cleaning, or you'd go nuts! Then there's the Preschool Interview guide consisting of 48 questions. Seriously, who does that?? I mean, I can see 10 or so, but 48? Really? It's preschool! They play with clay, sing songs, take naps & eat crackers! My advice? Don't buy this book.

The Cleaning Bible: Kim and Aggie's Complete Guide to Modern Household Management Review

The Cleaning Bible: Kim and Aggie's Complete Guide to Modern Household Management

I love their tv show--and this book! It was amazing to learn how much dirt and bacteria can lurk in an uncleaned house!
The "Cleaning Bible" is full of how-tos for easy cleaning, and recipes for making your own inexpensive, organic, & non-toxic cleaning supplies. I've actually tried lots of their ideas and they've all worked well. The only drawback to the book is the rather inefficient indexing. You have to take the time to familiarize yourself with what's in the book if you hope to be able to find information when you REALLY need it.
This book will become my new standard wedding or housewarming gift for new house-keepers! The Cleaning Bible: Kim and Aggie's Complete Guide to Modern Household Management
