This book is a good read for someone who wants a basic understanding of how a site is prepared and how to layout a foundation. If you are going to attempt to do your own foundation or monolithic slab and you are not experienced, this book will not give you enough detail--it especially lacks any detail on how to reinforce your monolithic slab with rebar, which is why I purchased the book. The first few chapters are so basic, it leaves you wondering why the publisher put this information in the book (like drawings of basic handtools). The book also goes into fascia and trim work, which is totally out of place for a book on foundations and sitework. If you have done a sidewalk or perhaps a concrete drive in the past and want to try your hand at some DIY foundations or sitework or a more indepth reading on the subject, this book is too basic for you. If you want enough of a foundation (no pun intended) to be able to understand what your hired contractor is doing, then this book is sufficient.
